Kona Pacific Public Charter School
Live and work in paradise!
Kona Pacific Public Charter School is seeking an extraordinary school director to launch a new charter school inspired by Waldorf education on the Big Island of Hawai‘i.
Located in the heart of Kona Coffee country, our campus is situated on a 40 acre-property with magical forest, sacred Hawaiian sites, and the school’s farm. The campus overlooks the famous Kona Coast—where glorious sunsets, natural beauty, and world-class snorkeling, scuba and kayaking are only minutes away. Cool breezes, moderate year-round temperatures, and the warm aloha spirit of “Old Hawai‘i” provide a comfortable, inspiring, and supportive environment.
Kona Pacific will provide an educational program inspired by Waldorf education, specially tailored to emphasize a standards-based academic program promoting student achievement in reading and writing, math, science, the arts, foreign languages, musical training, movement, and farming and gardening. Our school’s curriculum embraces the values of Hawaiian culture, with particular focus on environmental education and community sustainability through understanding and respect for the people, land and sea of Hawai'i. Farming and gardening will be deeply integrated into all facets of learning and school life.
Our school aims to serve a diverse population that might not otherwise have access to a Waldorf-inspired curriculum. Our intent is to help each child grow into a competent, creative, and self-directed person. Students will emerge from the school ready to pursue ambitious academic goals and will be equipped with the requisite tools to meet life’s social, moral, physical and intellectual challenges.
Searching for a school leader who has mastered: Waldorf educational philosophy, standards-based curricular design and assessment, instructional best practices, coaching skills, building professional learning communities and sustainable organizations, and strategic planning capacities. The Director builds bridges between all constituent groups and prioritizes students in decision-making. Must be adept at the administrative functions and general business management of the school, including: enrollment, development, operations, admissions, public relations, facilities and finance.
Desired qualifications include: Master’s degree, Waldorf Certification, and a combined 5 years of successful teaching and administrative experience. Experience in public sector Waldorf education highly valued. Competitive compensation, benefits and professional development opportunities.
