Journey School
Imagine yourself in sunny Southern California, driving down a curved road, past a creek-side park and soccer fields, onto a 6½ acre campus with playgrounds and gardens. Welcome to Journey School, a K-8 public charter which teaches to the California State Standards using methods inspired by the teachings of Rudolf Steiner. This year, as Journey proudly graduates its first 8th grade class, it also looks to hire new faculty for 2008-09. Ever-growing, Journey seeks to employ colleagues in Eurythmy (part-time), Kindergarten, 1st, 4th, 5th, and (possibly) 6th grades. Also, there are ongoing opportunities for substitute teachers at all levels.
The ideal candidate will have teaching experience in either a public or Waldorf school. That person would hold a valid multiple-subject California teaching credential and a Waldorf Teaching Certificate (or plan to receive that certificate within 3 years). Additionally, the candidate should pass CBEST, CSET, and RICA testing. Substitute teachers will hold either a California Credential, or have a Bachelor of Arts, and CBEST, CSET, and RICA.
The salary is $36,500-$45,500 plus benefits. The benefit package is a flexible benefit plan and includes $4,882 annually for health, dental, vision, chiropractic care, life insurance and an additional retirement fund, if your account allows for this. Class teachers and state certificated faculty become members of the California State Public Employees Retirement System otherwise known as STRS. STRS participants do not contribute to social security. There is paid training, and stipends for conferences and mentoring.
Our School Council has worked diligently with the parents and the faculty to assist in creating a school that is dynamic, stable, and not to be compared to an average school. We seek energetic colleagues to join us in fulfilling our vision of education. We encourage you to review the school’s website at http://www.journeyschool.net/ for more information. If interested, please contact education administrator John Bennett or teacher Laura Childers (LChilders@journeyschool.net) at 949-448-7232, or email your resume, cover letter and biography to JBennett@journeyschool.net .
