First Grade Teacher, Fall 2008

Greenwood School
Send us your resume today! Vibrant. Inquisitive. Inspired. These words both describe Greenwood School and the First Grade Teacher we seek. Ours is an independent K-8 Waldorf-inspired school located in Mill Valley (just north of the Golden Gate Bridge) in California. Come join our incredible team! The school currently has 12 full-time and 16 part-time teachers and 155 students. In our 16th year, Greenwood offers our students the many strengths associated with a Waldorf-style curriculum while also integrating contemporary programs to stay current with the changing world. We seek an experienced, Waldorf-trained teacher ready to be a long-term faculty member, who sees education as a creative pursuit and truly loves to be with children. The ideal applicant will be a team-player, with excellent classroom management and communication skills. A broad general education in the Arts and Sciences (e.g. a BA/BS degree or higher academic qualification) will be advantageous, as it is our intention for the first grade teacher to teach the class through eighth grade. Your students will come from two Kindergartens led by Waldorf teachers with 40+ years of experience between them. Your class size will be a maximum of 24 students. Salary is in the range $50,000-$70,000, based on teaching experience, with excellent benefits including full medical and dental benefits as well as a 401(K) retirement plan. At Greenwood School, you will participate in the creative and organizational duties of the school as well as be active in continuing professional development. There is a very experienced Waldorf faculty with strong mentoring for less-experienced staff. Our programs include: Spanish, Eurythmy, Strings, Woodwork, Handwork, Games, Earthwork, Choral singing and second languages which are class-specific, ranging from Japanese to Welsh and Afrikaans. In addition each student spends one day per week outdoors in nature, involved in our Nature/Environmental Studies (NEST) program which fosters reverence, wonder and stewardship of the natural world, while incorporating an age-appropriate science program. As a member of our distinguished faculty, you will join our vibrant and growing school in our quest to provide a superb, holistic education that will best prepare our students for their futures. The town of Mill Valley provides a charming setting nestled on the lower slopes of majestic Mt. Tamalpais in the south of Marin County. With a population of almost 14,000, Mill Valley was named by a national magazine, Money, as the 10th best city in the nation to live. Just a 15 minute drive north of San Francisco, this historic Northern Californian mill town sits among redwood-lined canyons a few miles from Pacific Ocean beaches and 45 minutes from Sonoma and Napa wine country and Point Reyes National Seashore. We welcome your resume along with a letter of interest that touches on your life experience, education, teaching experiences and educational philosophy. We also ask that you submit three references from people who know your work whom we could contact by phone. Please write to: resumes@greenwoodschool.org.
