Olympia Waldorf School
The Olympia Waldorf School, a well-established school in its twenty-third year, is actively seeking a Waldorf-trained teacher for our upcoming First Grade class.
The Olympia Waldorf School offers a K-8th grade curriculum serving approximately 165 students. Our faculty currently includes three kindergarten teachers and assistants, eight class teachers and five specialty teachers. Specialty lessons offered are Eurythmy, German, Spanish, Gardening, Games, Handwork, Woodwork, Music, and Strings. We have celebrated six graduating eighth grade classes and inaugurated a College of Teachers in the spring of 2006. Our Early Childhood Program is well known and respected in the greater Olympia community and in the fall of 2007 we realized our long-held vision of opening a Kinderhaus adjacent to the school’s main campus.
A full administrative staff that manages the daily activities of school operations further complements the faculty body. Our campus has two buildings, a circa 1914 school building--complete with bell tower--which has a place on our state’s historical register and a newer three classroom building built in 1999. We are situated on 5.5 acres of field and garden in rural East Olympia. Our community is warm and dedicated and actively participates in the life of the school. The Olympia Waldorf School is deeply committed to honoring and sharing the rich cultural diversity that lives in our community.
Olympia is the capitol of the state of Washington nestled at the southern tip of Puget Sound, a large body of salt-water bays, channels, inlets and coves. The Olympic Peninsula with its rain forests, mountains, coastal beaches and parks is just an hour away. The Cascade Mountain Range stretches north to south separating temperate and desert climates is also within an hour’s drive. If you are interested in climbing, skiing, hiking, kayaking, sailing, fishing, boating or any outdoor pursuits, there is much to offer here. We are very fortunate and aware of our natural world and all that it has to offer. We are far enough to the North that we have four seasons, much daylight in the summer and plenty of darkness in the winter to draw us into our families and homes.
Compensation includes increments for teaching and educational experience, health and dental benefits. Candidates with Waldorf teacher training certification or equivalent experience are preferred. Olympia’s cost of living provides the possibility of sustainable living. Olympia offers a mix of small-town environment enriched with the artistic and cultural amenities of a progressively independent capitol city.
