Class 2 Teacher

Santa Fe Waldorf School
The Santa Fe Waldorf School is seeking a second grade class teacher for the 2008/2009 school year. This well formed class of 24 students has had a successful year under the guidance of an excellent teacher. The students are supported by a committed group of Waldorf parents. The College of Teachers invites applications from trained Waldorf Teachers. Established in 1983, the Santa Fe Waldorf School graduated it’s first eighth grade class in 1990. The School added a Pre-School program in 2004. It graduated its first high school class in 2005. In 2006 the School was accredited dually by the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America (AWSNA) and by the Commission on Accreditation and School Improvement of the North Central Association (NCAA). The School enrolls some 260 students, has some 60 full- and part-time faculty and staff members, and hosts an active Board of Trustees of some 12 members. The curriculum across all 15 grades (Pre-K - 12) is rich and varied. It is designed to give a classical education while developing the abilities of the head, heart, and hand. In addition to Main Lessons, the academic skills classes include Spanish, math, and English in the middle and upper grades. The curriculum also includes physical activities: games, Eurythmy, physical education with sports teams in the middle and upper grades. There are a range of art classes in the practical, fine, and performing arts: drawing, painting, drama, woodwork, handwork, to name some. There are ongoing classes in music: chorus, strings, woodwinds, marimba, and world music. The pedagogy is inspired by the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner. The faculty and staff study anthroposophy to maintain a cohesive school community and to guide the teaching. Within the local region of Santa Fe, there are a number of anthroposophically inspired programs: a biodynamic farm, a branch of the Anthroposophical Society, First Class meetings of the School of Spiritual Science, and adult education courses in anthroposophy. The 13-acre School campus has steadily grown and evolved over the past 24 years. The campus is located in the southeast edge of Santa Fe, on a high desert plateau, surrounded by the 12,000 foot-high peaks of the Jemez and Sangre de Cristo Mountain ranges. The School's seven buildings are nestled amid pinion trees, chamisa bushes, and a labyrinth of small arroyos, an enchanting setting for learning and exploration. Santa Fe is the oldest capital city in the United States. It is home to a number of cultural, healing, and spiritual centers. At Christmas time, the roofs of the traditional adobe homes sparkle at night with farolitos. In the summer, Santa Fe hosts the Santa Fe Opera, Spanish Market, Folk Art Fair, and Indian Market. In addition, one can enjoy hiking, skiing, film festivals, the farmers' market, galleries, museums, and numerous world-class and down-home restaurants. We offer full-time faculty a base salary of $36,500 (with an additional $500 per year of full-time Waldorf teaching experience) and a benefits package that includes full tuition remission, health insurance, dental insurance, support with continuing education and conference attendance, a mentoring program, and a retirement account with TIAA-CREF. Interested applicants are invited to send a letter of introduction, a brief biography, resume, and three letters of recommendation to: Santa Fe Waldorf School- Hiring 26 Puesta del Sol Santa Fe, NM 87508
