First / Second Grade Main Lesson Mentor (Email Only)

Lagunitas Waldorf-Inspired Program
The Lagunitas Waldorf-Inspired Program anticipates the need for a part-time main lesson mentor for a combined 1st/2nd grade for the 2008-09 school year. This position will be formally announced when it is officially opened by the Lagunitas School District Board of Trustees. This position, should it open as anticipated, will require a person trained and/or experienced in Waldorf methodology to assist the credentialed Waldorf teacher in preparing and delivering main lessons to this combined class each morning. There is the possibility of additional hours of employment in areas such as movement / spatial dynamics, music, and/or a foreign language. The Lagunitus Waldorf-Inspired Program is an innovative public school program located in rural west Marin County thirty minutes north of San Francisco. Our campus is inspiringly beautiful, surrounded by gentle rolling hills and complete with a salmon stream running through the middle of campus. Qualifications: Ca multi-subject teaching credential is required, a background in education inspired by Waldorf desired. Duties and Responsibilities: Education Program and Environment • Present a curriculum inspired by Waldorf education in a sequence and intensity that fits the developmental stage of the child. • Create activities throughout the curriculum that consider the temperaments/personalities, develop social skills and explore artistic expression. • Teach to grade level standards adopted by GVCS. • Create a clean, orderly and beautiful classroom. • Arrive on campus fifteen minutes prior to the start of school and remain on campus until fifteen minutes after school is dismissed. • Comply with all Special Education Regulations, the GVCS Charter and policies adopted by the GVCS Board of Trustees. • Work with Student Success Team to assess children’s needs and formulate a plan to address any special needs. Parent Relations • Offer a minimum of three Parent Meetings throughout the year. • Work to achieve a mutual understanding, respect and harmony between home and school. • Provide parents with a Daily Schedule and Block Rotation during the first month of school. • Hold individual conferences with the parents of each child. • Be available for phone conversations or additional conferences as needed. • Provide class notes or newsletter to families to keep parents informed of activities, events and class happenings. Assessment and Record Keeping • Provide a written evaluation of each child at the end of the year. • Conduct state mandated tests and evaluation procedures as required. • Keep appropriate records of each student’s progress in basic skills. • Monitor and report student attendance. Collaborative Leadership • Participate on various committees as required for teacher representation. (i.e.: Charter Council, Parent Association, Student Success Team, Task Forces as needed and Committees such as Administrative, Budget, Hiring, Student Success Team and Development) Collegial Atmosphere • Work cooperatively with all other faculty, assistants, administrator, and staff. • Work to create a cohesive educational program for the school • Participate in weekly faculty meetings. • Share knowledge and experience with other faculty members for the betterment of all. Outreach/Community Relations • Participate in community and school-wide education evenings, festivals and ceremonies. • Meet with interested parents of prospective children for the class. Mountain Oak School, a charter school located in the mile-high city of Prescott, Arizona, is in its ninth year and offers a K-8 Waldorf curriculum to about 180 children from a broad range of socio-economic backgrounds. We seek a dedicated, energetic, and conscientious fourth grade teacher with Waldorf training and experience for the fall of 2008. We expect about 20 children in next year’s class. Our faculty has various degrees of Waldorf training and experience, including eight with Waldorf certification. We are fortunate to have Cynthia Roe–with over 20 years Waldorf experience–as our Principal and Education Director. Part-time specialty teachers offer instruction in Spanish language, musical instruments, handwork, and outdoor games. Mountain Oak is community-based, and parent volunteers play an integral role in the school. Prescott is renowned for its home-town atmosphere, clean air, mild climate, Ponderosa pines, lakes, and mountain views; it is surrounded on all sides by National Forest and is an outdoor enthusiast's paradise, not to mention a great place to raise children. There is a performing arts center, three local colleges, and a community-supported agriculture program, which offers locally grown organic produce. Driving time to Phoenix or Flagstaff is less than 2 hours, the Mexican border is 5 hours away, and Los Angeles is 7 hours by car. There are local anthroposophical study groups and even an anthroposophically trained medical doctor. The candidate we seek must be a team player and committed to bringing Waldorf education to our children.
