Grade 1-8 Handwork Teacher

Vancouver Waldorf School
GRADES 1-8 HANDWORK TEACHER required for September 2008. Full time position. Requirements: Specialized training or relevant education in handwork or practical arts in addition to either Waldorf training or relevant Waldorf teaching experience. The successful applicants will be joining an enthusiastic faculty and energetic community. Vancouver is home to several Anthroposophical study groups, Anthroposophical doctors and therapists and a Christian Community church. The temperate climate provides year-round activities such as skiing, hiking and biking. Vancouver is known as one of the most beautiful cities in the world, one of the best places to live, and is a well-known multi-cultural centre with art galleries, museums, theatres, restaurants, colleges and universities. Our school, now in its 39th year, offers a full Early Childhood to Grade Twelve program. Our newly completed and anthroposophically designed Early Childhood Centre houses our Early Childhood programs. Our current site development plan includes completing the building of the remaining buildings on one campus, including the Grade School, High School and Performance Hall. We operate on a three-fold governance structure defined by a Strategic Plan, which is in its third year of implementation. The past three years has seen the establishment of an Executive Group, which oversees the implementation of the Strategic Plan and the day-to-day operations of the school, and ensures that all issues are carried and resolved appropriately and expeditiously, a Pedagogical Carrying Group and a new Committee/Task Groups system that effectively empowers Faculty to participate in the running of the school, a newly designed administrative structure with developed protocols and procedures intended to support the work of the faculty and provide friendly and supportive service to the families that seek Waldorf education, a Parent Council, a School Counsellor, renewed music and foreign language programs, as well as Kim Payne’s Social Inclusion Program, and the Raising More Money mission-based fundraising program.. We are a full-member of the Association of Waldorf Schools of North America, the Federation of Independent Schools Association in British Columbia, and are fully certified by the British Columbia Ministry of Education. We regularly host Waldorf conferences and speakers, Early Childhood Teacher Training courses offered by the West Coast Institute for Studies in Anthroposophy, and conferences offered by sister Anthroposophical organizations in Vancouver. Remuneration salary range is CDN $35,000-$46,000 per annum depending on experience and qualifications. Employee benefits include tuition as a taxable benefit, and an Extended Health Benefits Plan, which includes a Dental Plan, Life Insurance Plan, short and long term disability plan, and other health benefits. We offer assistance with travel costs for interviews with selected candidates and for some costs associated with moving. Handwork Position

The Ithaca Children's School
As the Ithaca Waldorf Initiative and Stone Circle School merge, we are jointly seeking a handwork teacher to join the faculty of the new Waldorf School in Ithaca, NY, The Ithaca Children's School. Waldorf training in handworks and elementary teaching experience a must. This is a part-time teaching position. Applicants will be expected to work with children in first through sixth grade. High School and Middle School Woodworking Teacher

Part-time Spanish/Handwork Position

Greenwood School, a small Waldorf-inspired K-8 elementary school located in downtown Mill Valley, Marin County, 20 minutes north of San Francisco, is currently recruiting a part-time teacher for Spanish/ Handwork to start working in our Language Ecology Program in the fall of 2008. Our medium of instruction at Greenwood is American English and all our students study Spanish as 2nd Language from Grades 1 through 8. In addition, Handwork is also taught through the medium of Spanish. We have one class of no more than 24 students in each of our current grades. We are looking for enthusiastic and creative individuals who love to work with young children. We prefer that the candidate teachers for these positions be able to provide a whole immersion environment for the students through songs, games and the creation of conversational situations. Learning and fun should not be mutually exclusive features of the classroom and we are therefore looking for special teachers who can create a dynamic, lively and healthily structured language learning environment that will leave the children nourished and with a twinkle in the eyes at the end of each lesson! The ideal candidate will also know how to knit, crochet, embroider, sew and be able to provide artistic instruction in these traditional crafts. Experience in doll making, felting and weaving will be an added advantage. Training in the Steiner approach to language learning/ education is preferred and a willingness to engage with the educational work of Rudolf Steiner is an absolute must. At this point we are looking for a commitment of four to eight 45-minute lessons per week. Woodworking Teacher

Richmond Waldorf School
RICHMOND WALDORF SCHOOL seeks a Woodworking Teacher for the 2008-09 academic year. The woodworking program is for 10-13 year olds (5th to 7th graders). The curriculum stresses the use of basic hand tools to create practical objects such as mallets, spoons, bowls and brooms. (Woodworking is one aspect of the artistic work at Waldorf schools which also includes knitting, drawing, painting, wax modeling, etc.) An emphasis is placed on the use of natural materials and helping the students understand the life cycle of their projects from seed to object. This is a part-time position, approximately 4 to 6 hours a week. While the position is initially part-time, we are flexible about adding additional responsibilities to make it a full-time position with full salary and benefits. We seek an individual with both woodworking and teaching experience. Familiarity with the Waldorf curriculum and/or Waldorf Teacher Certification is preferred, but not required.
