Raphael House Rudolf Steiner School
SCIENCE/ MATHS TEACHER – REQUIRED URGENTLY
Raphael House Rudolf Steiner School, Wellington, New Zealand
Raphael House Rudolf Steiner School is urgently seeking an experienced Upper School Science/Maths Teacher to begin teaching on 5 May 2008. The position involves an emphasis on the chemistry main lessons at each class level, with some maths main lessons, including projective geometry. Weekly lessons include maths and science to Class 12 level and basic computing skills to Class 10. Our approach to science teaching is strongly phenomenological and therefore applicants should ideally have both a thorough understanding and experience of teaching science in this way. We are looking for someone with a passion for these subject areas, who loves teaching adolescents and is able to build effective relationships with them.
Our preferred applicant would have a science/maths degree and a Waldorf teaching qualification. In addition to this a state recognized teaching qualification is required to teach in New Zealand schools. The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (www.nzqa.govt.nz) assesses whether overseas teacher training qualifications are equivalent to NZ state teacher training qualifications.
Established in 1979, Raphael House now has a roll of 340 students from kindergarten to Class 12, with around 130 students in the Upper School. Our thriving school is innovative and progressive in both its teaching and learning programmes and its organizational structure. We enjoy a rich cultural and festival life supported by enthusiastic and committed teachers and parents.
The school is situated on the western hills of Lower Hutt, near Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. There are spectacular views of the Hutt Valley and Wellington Harbour from the school buildings, which are nestled on a ridge amidst beautiful native forest. Wellington City offers a rich cultural life and an environs of stunning coastline, hills and mountains.
The school is a state integrated school, with the teachers’ salaries and operational expenses being funded by the government. Parent fundraising has supported the development of the buildings and school site. An exciting new building project will begin later this year which will greatly extend the upper school facilities and include new laboratories, a maths/computer room, classrooms, a music room and a wonderful covered courtyard for the students.
