We are a rather busy family, with multiple jobs and businesses to attend to. We are looking for a Live-in Au Pair and Home School teacher to work with us in Estes Park, Colorado. We are preparing to take over much of the operation of our family book store. My wife, Stacia, would be the fourth generation in the family to run the bookshop. You are probably aware that Independent bookstores are a difficult business to be in currently, threatened as they are by the big chain discount book stores and Amazon.com. It requires much innovation and hard work just to keep in business. It is a worthy cause, however. We are also trying to create a local/organic food co-op in our town. Such a start-up will also require much attention. In addition, I work part-time as a civil engineer. We have two boys, ages 6 and 4. We are just beginning to home school Stuart, the eldest. I am creating his curriculum from a variety of Waldorf and Classical sources. Given our schedule, we will need help with this. We live in a small mountain town, Estes Park, Colorado. Our town is the gateway to Rocky Mountain National Park. There are plenty of hiking trails and nature to explore. Our town hosts around 3 million visitors each year, and there is a strong tourist economy. There is also a thriving local economy, of which we are a part; and which we try to encourage more of. Our family is vegetarian. We eat no meat, but we do consume eggs and dairy. We try to cultivate and live a rich spiritual life. We endeavor to practice meditation on God daily, and then to live in the awareness of His Presence as we meet each moment of the day. We adhere to what Gandhi called Equality of Religions, in which we encourage the Hindu to become a better Hindu, the Muslim to become a better Muslim, the Christian to become a better Christian; knowing that as there are many paths with which to ascend to the top of a mountain, so there are are many paths with which to ascend to the Presence of God. As you can see, our lives are quite busy and varied. While we would not know what your work schedule would be as much as a month in advance, we would most likely have the schedule set about two weeks in advance. We have a downstairs that is virtually an apartment, with its own bedroom, bathroom and living room. The living room has a sink, and could be equipped with a hot plate, a toaster oven and a refrigerator which would make cooking private meals or snacks possible. It should yield a good sense of privacy for your time off. We are an international family looking for a Home School teacher to work us with in Ashland, Oregon and to accompany us on our world travels in 2008. This position ideally starts in May/June 2008.

We are a dedicated Steiner family with two lovely daughters, Lola Skye, 6 and Sofia Jade 4.

Our ideal candidate either has a minimum of 2 years of experience in a Steiner/Waldorf, kindergarten or 1st grade, with a minimum age of 21. We will consider candidates of all nationalities.

We are filmmakers whose work takes us around the world. We live a highly nomadic lifestyle and need a home schoolteacher to travel with us. In the past two years we have lived in/visited Italy, San Francisco, Japan, China and Australia. We are currently living in Byron Bay Australia and will be here until the beginning of March, when we will be moving to the Ashland, Oregon area. We will likely be in Ashland through the summer months. In the fall we may travel back to Italy and Spain. As we don’t like the cold weather we will be looking to travel to somewhere warm for the winter months. Byron Bay and Hawaii are two potential places for next winter. We are looking for someone to come along with us and share our adventures and help us teach our wonderful girls. The curriculum is thematic with combined and separate activities for the girls. We loosely follow the yearly Steiner curriculum, but like to allow for child driven themes and topics localized to the country we are visiting.

This is a one-year commitment minimum. The ideal candidate has no future obligations for that period and has a desire to mix travel with work. The job is 40-42 hrs a week. In return we supply room and board plus a cash stipend of $250 to $400 a week depending on education and experience levels.

We pay all airfares, all housing globally (you get your own room), telephones, internet and all meals. We also pay for anything you need day to day like toiletries, vitamins etc.

Our preference is for someone with deep experience who comes with ideas of a daily and yearly rhythm. We are open to candidates who have been teachers for many years and are looking for a regenerative sabbatical or an entire new life.
