Ak Lu'um Waldorf Initiative, Playa del Carmen, Quintana Roo, Mexico.
For next August (2008) we are looking for a Kindergarten teacher: committed, qualified, full of enthusiasm and interested in learning about the Riviera Maya and it's culture. Our school is growing slowly but surely.
The ideal candidate should have at least a working knowledge of Spanish, as some of our parents speak no English and be flexible, open-minded and full of ideas. Working as part of a team is vital and knowledge of or a strong interest in eco-friendly sustainability (bulding, gardening, animal husbandry, etc) will be very handy. There are children with special needs in the group and experience in this field is strongly desirable.
We offer a young, positive, friendly and supportive atmosphere. Our school is going through the process of incorporation to WECAN and AWSNA as well as working alongside the Mexican National Curriculum. We have over 12 nationalities in school and class sizes are small (15 max in preschool). The salary, although not comparable to US and UK levels is above the local average and works out to about 800 to 1200 US per month depending on qualifications experience etc.
The contract is for min. 2 years renewable.
Please feel free to send your cv and any questions you may have to Siobhan Bowers. Also visit our website at: www.akluum.com

The Hill School
The Hill School of New Orleans, is beginning its’ Annual Teacher Search early this year. We are looking for the following positions for the 08-09 school year:
• Nursery Program Early Childhood Teacher – This is a new program that is being added for the 2008/2009 school year. Enrollment will consist of children, ages 2 years 8 months up to 4 years old. As a result of hurricane Katrina our community is in dire need of new early childhood programs to replace those lost due to the storm. This is an exciting opportunity for the school to be a part of rebuilding our community and expanding our mission at the same time.
• Early Childhood teacher for the Pre-K/Kindergarten class – This is a well established program in need of a new lead teacher to nurture and grow our pre-K/K students. The current enrollment for this class is ten students, however we are working to increase that to sixteen students next year with an assistant.
As most of you are aware, hurricane Katrina had a tremendous impact on this region and our school. The Hill School relocated, after flooding at our previous location, and re-opened our door only nine weeks following the storm. We currently lease space in a renovated historic warehouse building located in the Irish Channel neighborhood. The Board of Directors and the faculty have been working hard to rebuild enrollment, community, and a strong foundation on which the school can grow and prosper. We are proud to be the only Waldorf school in the Gulf South region and the state of Louisiana.
We are seeking the above additional faculty members who are looking to be part of a pioneering school. Our Enrollment Committee is very focused on increasing enrollment for the entire school. Currently we offer music, Spanish, German and handwork as specialty classes to the grades.
New Orleans is a city rich in culture; food, music and festivals, to name a few. The community is dedicated to the re-building of one of this nation’s most unique places. New Orleans, known for its’ rich culture and diversity, is home to many universities and museums as well as a thriving arts district. Both Audubon and City park have won national awards and are located along the historic street car routes. Last but not least, there is the French Quarter, truly a jewel in the city’s crown. There are unlimited restaurants throughout the city that offer both local flavor and fine dining experiences.
