The Hill School
Nursery Teacher/Parent Educator: The Hill School of New Orleans is seeking a warm and creative individual to teach in our new 3-day Nursery Program for two and three year old children and to hold Parent-child classes one or two days a week for the 2008/2009 school year. Ideal candidates will have a passion for Waldorf education and experience teaching in a Waldorf early childhood classroom. Candidates holding a bachelor’s degree who have a serious interest in Waldorf education and a willingness to attend summer training will be considered.
The Hill School was founded in 2000 and is a developing member of AWSNA. We are proud to be the only Waldorf school in the Gulf South region and the state of Louisiana. The Hill School was affected by Hurricane Katrina and though the student body and faculty were reduced we continue to grow in this recovering community. Our school is housed along the Mississippi river in a renovated historic warehouse building located in the Irish Channel neighborhood. We currently offer music, Spanish, German and handwork as specialty classes to the grades. The school is expanding its early childhood program this fall with the Nursery program and Parent-child classes.
We have a committed group of faculty, board members and parents that work together out of the pedagogy and Anthroposophy of Rudolf Steiner. Our faculty members are trained, experienced, and dedicated Waldorf teachers.
Our school community is dedicated to providing Waldorf education to one of this nation’s most unique places. New Orleans is known for its rich culture and diversity. The city is famous for its festivals (Mardi Gras and Jazz Fest being the biggest), music, and historic street car lines. There are unlimited restaurants throughout the city that offer our fresh seafood, local flavor and fine dining experiences. It is home to the renowned Tulane and Loyola universities, a thriving arts district, Audubon Park and Zoo, and the New Orleans Museum of Art. And, of course, there is the French Quarter, truly a jewel in the city’s crown. The city’s antiquity and historical preservation is entirely unique, and the architecture will spoil you. The vegetation is lush year round and the winters mild. New Orleans is a small enough city to know your neighbors and large enough to offer excellent professional opportunities for working spouses and partners.
The Hill School offers a competitive salary, health benefits, mentorship, professional development, and full tuition remission for full time employee children. Please see our website at www.thehillschool.net
