Singing and/or Recorder Teacher

Our nine-year-old Waldorf Methods K-8 charter school seeks a part-time Singing and Recorder teacher for the 2008-2009 school year, grades 4 though 8. Environmental Educator

The Pfeiffer Center
The Pfeiffer Center was founded to foster the use of gardening and experiential environmental education in primary and secondary schools. Our three-acre Biodynamic teaching garden, which features produce, flowers, fruit trees, and an apiary, lies across the road from Duryea Farm, a working Biodynamic farm with dairy cows, sheep, vegetables, and forest and wetland paths. Our community also includes Sunbridge College and Green Meadow Waldorf School. Our flagship program, The Outdoor Lesson, gives hundreds of local children irreplaceable formative experiences with soil, plants, animals – and each other. We offer an experienced, Waldorf-oriented environmental educator the unique opportunity to unite your love of nature, gardening and working with children with our extraordinary human and physical resources. The Pfeiffer Center’s Environmental Educator will be encouraged to create and enact new programs, taking a leadership role in bringing our offerings into the lives of children from our surrounding communities.

Located just 30 miles from New York City, the Pfeiffer Center is at the heart of a lively and varied academic and artistic community that draws students and residents from all over the world.

The ideal candidate will have: • A desire to bring together their love of working with children with their love of the natural world and of gardening. • A minimum of 5 years’ experience working with children. • Knowledge of Biodynamics and sustainable methods of gardening and land care. • Gardening experience. • Excellent organizational and people skills. • Masters’ degree in environmental education or equivalent; training and/or experience in Waldorf Education. • Some development experience.

This is a full-time, permanent position, starting with training in May/June and moving to full-time in mid August. Salary commensurate with qualifications. Generous benefits package includes health insurance, retirement, vacation, and eligibility for campus housing.
